Training treats, we use and highly recommend these as treats, our dogs and puppies alike tell
us they are healthy and delicious, “Raw Nibs” by Only Natural Pet, pictured below.
Our pups also like the Nutrisource brand treats, and teeny amounts of peanut butter.
Teething toys, anything KONG is good, tennis balls to play fetch.
(The best is a real smoked bone from your local meat shop, very good for their teeth)
Bully Sticks, an effective way to clean a pups teeth because it requires some tough chewing which massages the gums and cleans the teeth, and PUPS LOVE THEM.
Dog Toothpaste
Puppy Shampoo (we like Burts Bees brand)
Puppy Comb and Slicker Brush; very important to teach your puppy to be OK with being brushed every day, especially around the feet and belly as they can get matted quickly if puppy gets damp/wet and is not brushed out.
Nail trimmers or file (or plan on visiting the vet or groomer often)
We are happy to show you how to easily and safely trip your pups nails. They have had it done here several times, to intentionally teach them to not be afraid of a nail clipper.
Ear Wash (we use vinegar and a few drops of dawn dish soap, for the ears, keep in an empty small soap bottle, add a few drops to each puppy ear, as needed, massage, dry out with clean towel. We also use this solution to clean up any accidents on our hardwood floor, good stuff)
Pooper Scooper and Poop bags
Lots of paper towels
Car seat dog cover or hammock
Flea & tick preventatives, start with a soresto collar, from any reputable pet store, when pup is older; 12-16 weeks, like a product called BRAVECTO, it is a prescription chew treat, repels fleas and ticks for 3 months, ask your vet about it, works much better than a pour-on
Canned pumpkin, plain greek yogurt, and plain peanut butter - for crate training with Kongs! Also keep gut healthy during transition. (adding a tiny amount of Fiber One cereal per day gives extra fiber, notd from our vet)
Dewormer, we use a product called INTERCEPTER PLUS, once a month dose, prevents heartworm, treats and controls common intestinal parasites
Grooming tips; your puppy will need to be groomed every 3 to 4 months, this is what we request from our groomer to make a nice doodle look: schnauzer face, clean, feet, sani cut.
If you attempt the grooming yourself, we highly suggest an Oster brand dog trimmer, the number 4 blade leaves about a half inch coat.
Things to avoid:
Rawhide (only under close supervision, puppies may choke on big chunks, they can chew off a peice and swallow it)
Doodles are famous for eating socks and other small undergarments - be careful!
Squeakers and stuffing and rope toys are fun but should all be carefully monitored.
Grapes, chocolate, alcohol, Poinsettia plants; are very poisonous for dogs!
